Temponia for Jira

Track time on Jira issues straight into Temponia, and get the worklog back on the issue automatically.

Last updated 17 August 2026

The app adds a Temponia panel to every Jira issue. From that panel you can start and stop a timer, or log time manually. Each entry is created in Temponia on the project and task the Jira project is mapped to, under the Temponia user linked to your Jira account.

Every entry is also written back to the Jira issue as a worklog, authored by the person who tracked the time. Jira's own Time tracking field and any report built on worklogs keep working exactly as before.

Approvals, invoicing and reporting stay in Temponia. Nobody has to leave Jira to record their hours.

Prefer pictures? The visual setup guide walks through the same setup with screenshots of the panel at every step.

Before you start

  • A Jira Cloud site, and permission to install apps on it (Jira administrator).
  • A Temponia account. The Jira app is free; Temponia is a paid subscription, priced on the people who track time rather than on the size of your Jira site.
  • A Temponia owner or admin to connect the site and map projects. Everyone else only needs to link their own account.

1. Install the app

  1. Open the app's Atlassian Marketplace listing and select Get it now.
  2. Choose the Jira site to install onto and confirm.
  3. Open any issue and select the Apps button (the hexagon icon) directly under the issue title, next to the + button, then pick Temponia from the menu. On some issue views it sits inside the + menu instead, under Apps. The panel appears in the main column, above the activity feed, and stays on the issue view from then on.

Can't find the panel? It sits behind the Apps button until you add it once, so searching the page for "Temponia" finds nothing while it is closed. The Connected status under Site settings > Connected apps in Jira is Atlassian's own app wiring; your Temponia workspace is connected inside the panel, in the next step.

Freshly installed, the panel explains what it needs next. It will not ask anyone to enter a password or an API token. See Data, privacy and uninstall.

2. Connect your workspace

Done once per Jira site, by a Temponia owner or admin.

  1. In the panel, enter your Temponia workspace. That is the first part of your Temponia address. For yourcompany.temponia.com, enter yourcompany.
  2. Select Connect Temponia. The panel produces a single-use link.
  3. Confirm the link from inside Temponia while signed in as an owner or admin. This is what proves the Jira site and the Temponia company belong to the same organisation.

Why two steps? Connecting is deliberately double confirmed: someone with rights in Jira starts it, and someone with rights in Temponia completes it. A link expires after 10 minutes and can only be used once.

3. Map a project

Time tracked on a Jira issue has to land somewhere in Temponia, so each Jira project points at one Temponia project.

  1. Open an issue in the Jira project you want to map.
  2. The panel shows Map this project to a Temponia project. Select Choose Temponia project.
  3. Pick the Temponia project and save.

Only a Jira user who is also a Temponia owner or admin can map a project. Once mapped, everyone tracking on that Jira project lands in the right place without having to choose.

Every person does this once, for themselves.

  1. Open any issue. The panel offers Link my Jira account.
  2. Confirm in Temponia while signed in as yourself.

Linking is per user and explicit. It is what lets the app write worklogs under your name rather than under a generic integration user. You can unlink yourself at any time from the integrations page in Temponia; sync for your account stops immediately.

5. Track time

With a timer

  1. Choose a Task. The list comes from the Temponia project this Jira project is mapped to.
  2. Optionally add a note describing what you are doing.
  3. Select Start timer. The panel shows a running counter.
  4. Select Stop when you are done. The entry is created and appears in Recent time on this issue with a SYNCED chip.

Use Discard instead of Stop to throw a running timer away without creating an entry.

Manually

  1. Switch to Log time manually.
  2. The start time is prefilled. Adjust it if you need to.
  3. Enter a duration, or tap one of the presets (15m, 30m, 45m, 1h, 1h 30m, 2h), then select Log time.

Rounding. Durations follow your company's rounding rules in Temponia. If your company rounds to 15 minutes, a timer stopped after six minutes rounds down to zero and no entry is created. That is the rounding setting doing its job, not a failed sync.

Worklogs and sync

Each Temponia entry created from an issue is mirrored to that issue as a Jira worklog. The worklog body carries the task name and your own note. It never carries rates, costs, invoice amounts or client details.

What you do What happens in Jira
Create an entry from the panel A worklog is added to the issue, authored by you
Edit the entry's time in Temponia The worklog duration is updated to match
Delete the entry in Temponia The worklog is removed from the issue
Approve the entry in Temponia The entry locks. The panel will not change it any more, and the worklog stops following it

Writes are queued and retried rather than fired and forgotten, so a brief Jira outage delays a worklog instead of losing it. Retried writes never create duplicates.

Locking works in one direction. Once an entry is approved, or its approval period is closed, Temponia stops accepting changes to it from every surface, the Jira panel included. Jira's own worklog editor is outside Temponia's control, so a worklog edited directly in Jira after approval will no longer match the approved entry.

Health and retries

Temponia has a health view for the Jira integration on the integrations page. It shows whether the connection is healthy, how many writes are queued, and any failures with the option to retry them. A daily reconciliation also compares both sides and converges anything that drifted.

Troubleshooting

I can't find the Temponia panel

The panel lives behind the Apps button (the hexagon icon) directly under the issue title until you add it once. See Install the app. It works on all Jira Cloud plans, the Free plan included.

The panel says the integration is not available

Your Temponia plan does not currently include Jira tracking, or the company's subscription has lapsed. The panel stays readable and explains itself rather than hiding. Check the subscription in Temponia.

I stopped a timer and no entry appeared

Almost always rounding. See the note under Track time. Check your company's rounding setting in Temponia.

The entry is in Temponia but the worklog is not on the issue

Reload the issue first; Jira's Time tracking field does not always refresh on its own. If it is still missing, open the health view in Temponia and retry the queued write.

The task list is empty

The Jira project is not mapped yet, or the mapped Temponia project has no tasks. See Map a project.

Someone else's time shows under my name

That would mean two people are linked to the same Temponia user. Check the account links on the integrations page in Temponia and unlink the wrong one.

Data, privacy and uninstall

The app stores what it needs to connect the two systems and nothing more:

  • Per installation: the installation and site identifiers, workspace context and an encrypted app token. No Jira issue content is stored.
  • Per linked user: the Atlassian account id mapped to a Temponia user.
  • Per synced entry: the Jira issue id and worklog id.

All calls are authenticated with Atlassian's own Forge invocation tokens, verified against Atlassian's published keys. The app never asks for and never stores a Jira password or API token.

Uninstalling the app from Jira invalidates the installation immediately: the token is cleared and background sync stops. Deleting the Jira integration in Temponia removes the link from the Temponia side. Worklogs already written to Jira issues stay on those issues unless you delete the corresponding entries in Temponia.

See the privacy policy for how Temponia handles your data generally.
