Turning modules on and off
The six optional modules, what each one adds to the app, and what happens to your data when you switch one off.
Last updated 25 July 2026
Time tracking, projects and reporting are always on. Everything else is a module you enable when you need it, so a team that only tracks hours is not looking at an invoicing menu it will never use.
Open Modules from the avatar menu, or the Enabled modules tab in company settings. The page asks you to "Select the modules you wish to enable" and lists each one with a switch, a description, a question mark that opens a longer explanation, and a Currently enabled badge. Flick what you want and select Save. Only the owner and admins can reach the page.
What each module adds
Timers puts a timer in the top bar, on every screen. It keeps running until someone stops it, and stopping it creates the timesheet entry. A running timer can be seen and stopped from another device or from the mobile apps. It only produces an entry when it ran long enough for your minimum time to log.
Expenses adds Expenses to the sidebar for logging them, Expense types under Manage for defining them with units and rates, and the expense report. Expense figures then appear in dashboards and uninvoiced overviews.
Invoicing adds Invoices to the sidebar and the Invoicing tab in company settings, where numbering, default taxes, the invoice logo and Peppol e-invoicing live. It is also what enables exporting invoices to Xero, Zoho and QuickBooks once those integrations are configured.
Approvals adds the Approvals tab in company settings and an Approvals inbox in the sidebar for reviewers. People submit each weekly or monthly period to their reviewer, who approves or rejects it with a reason. Submitted and approved periods are locked for changes and every step is recorded.
Reminders adds the Reminders and Non-working days tabs in company settings, and the per-user non-working days and compliance pages reached from the users list. See reminders and non-working days and holidays.
Flexfields adds Flexfields to the Company menu, where you define extra fields that appear on the timesheet entry form. They can be text, yes/no, currency or list values, and they come through into reporting.
Enabling is only half the story for two of them
Approvals and reminders each have a second switch. Turning the module on reveals the tab; it does not start anything. The approval workflow begins when you tick Enable timesheet approvals on the Approvals tab, and reminder emails begin when E-mail reminders on the Reminders tab is set to something other than Disabled.
Flexfields needs an Enterprise plan
The Flexfields row carries an Enterprise only badge. On plans that do not include it the switch is disabled and the page says "Flexfields are available on the Enterprise plan". During a trial the page instead says "Flexfields are available during trial and on the Enterprise plan", so you can try it before deciding.
What happens when you turn one off
Turning a module off is a visibility change, not a deletion. The switch is stored on the company and nothing else happens to your records. Invoices, expenses, expense types, flexfield definitions, approval periods and their history all stay where they are, and come back the moment you turn the module on again.
What does change:
- the menu entries and settings tabs for that module disappear
- the pages behind them stop being reachable, including by direct link
- the mobile apps stop offering timers, and reply that the module is disabled if one is started anyway
Timesheets are never touched. Turning off timers does not affect entries a timer created. Turning off invoicing does not un-invoice anything, and time already marked as invoiced stays marked.
One case is worth naming. If you had Only invoice approved time ticked and then switch the approvals module off, that restriction stops applying. Time does not stay uninvoiceable forever because of a leftover tick on a workflow that is no longer running.
Choosing what to enable
Enable what you will use this month rather than everything at once. Each module adds menu entries and, in the case of approvals and flexfields, extra steps for the people entering time. Modules can be turned on later without any migration, and nothing is lost by waiting.
