Using timers
Start and stop the timer in the top bar, and know what happens when you forget to stop one.

A timer sits in the top bar of every page in Temponia. Start it when you begin working on something, stop it when you are done, and the elapsed time becomes an ordinary time entry. Nothing about that entry is special: same project and task, same rate, same reports.
Timers are a module. If there is no timer in your top bar, an owner or admin has to switch timers on under modules.
Starting a timer
- Select the search box in the top bar and type at least two characters of a project or task name.
- Pick a result with the mouse, or move through the list with the arrow keys and press Enter.
The search box is replaced by a running counter, the project and task, and a red stop button. The counter also runs in the browser tab title, so you can keep an eye on it from another tab.
The green play button beside the search box restarts whatever you tracked last, note included.
Adding a note while it runs
The box to the left of a running timer asks What are you working on?. It writes to the timer itself and saves a moment after you stop typing. Whatever it says when you stop is the note on the entry that gets created.
Stopping a timer
Select the red stop button. Temponia creates the entry and confirms with Timesheet entry added.
Two outcomes tend to surprise people.
Rounding. Start and stop times are rounded to your company's minimum time to log. If that is 15 minutes and you stop after six, the rounded interval is empty, no entry is created, and the message reads No timesheet added. That is the rounding setting working as intended.
A stop is also refused when the entry would land in a period you have already submitted, or that has been approved. Rather than losing the time, the timer keeps running and the message explains why. Recall the submission or ask your reviewer, then stop it again. See submitting your timesheet.
One timer at a time
You can only have one timer running. In the browser that is self-evident, because while a timer runs there is nothing to start a second one with. Start a timer somewhere else, in a mobile app or from the Jira issue panel, and the timer that was already running is stopped first and turned into an entry.
It is the same timer everywhere. Start it on your phone and it appears in the top bar of your browser without a reload.
Discarding a timer
Discarding throws a running timer away without creating any time. It is available in the mobile apps and in the Jira issue panel. The browser has no discard button: stop the timer, then delete the entry it created.
If you leave a timer running
Temponia will not stop a timer for you. Two things happen instead.
- Once a timer has been running for more than eight hours you get a single email, You got a running timer!, listing the client, project, task and start time.
- If the timer is still going past midnight, stopping it splits the time into one entry per calendar day instead of one very long entry.
Working hours
A timer cannot be started outside the hours your company logs time between. Try it and the timer refuses, naming the earliest or the latest time you are allowed to start. An owner or admin sets that range under Log time between in the company settings.
